Sony has announced Marvel's Spider-Man 2 as its next PC port, arriving on Steam and the Epic Games Store early next year on 30th January 2025. PC specialist studio Nixxes has "optimised" the PS5 title for PC, and you can catch the first slice of footage in the trailer above. As is standard now, a PSN account will be required to play the game.
This is the same game that was released for PS5 in 2023, right down to carbon copy pre-order bonuses and an optional Digital Deluxe Edition. The title sold 11 million copies on Sony's system, so the PC port will only help to boost that total further — though, it has been noted how the excitement surrounding Sony's PC ports has begun to dwindle. In our Marvel's Spider-Man 2 PS5 review, we called it a "familiar but fantastic superhero sequel".

In a PlayStation Blog post, community manager at Nixxes, Julian Huijbregts, said the team is bringing Marvel's Spider-Man 2 to PC with "a suite of enhanced features, including enhanced ray-tracing options, to take full advantage of a variety of setups and configurations".
Have you been waiting to play Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PC? Let us know in the comments below.

Expected nonetheless. But that is actually quite kinda soon now lol/
I’m so ready to skip the PS6 and get a PC next gen. This was announced literally less than a year from the original launch. If games are now taking 6-8 years to develop regardless, I can wait nowadays to play it on hardware that is a lot more flexible, doesn’t charge for online, and is more direct in what you can do with it. I still think consoles have a place, especially with physical media, but if Sony is also phasing that out like they seem to be with the Pro as well as just putting everything on PC, I don’t see why there’s any value in still being on this ship.
Spider-Schlong mod when?
@Deoxyr1bose not once would you have been charged to play this game online.
@BowTiesAreCool I’m not talking about this game specifically, I’m talking about the PS hardware in general.
We're never getting that DLC are we? 😓
@Deoxyr1bose you just crying to cry at this point we all know ps5 games will get ported to pc with in a year or two.
@DennisReynolds To be fair, Insomniac are just stretched super thin. Wolverine and that whole massive hack debacle have scuppered them. That being said, I’ve been holding off on this just because I thought there might be an ultimate edition coming.
@nessisonett According to the leaks we were getting a whole year of DLC including 3 expansions and frequent suit drops.
Finally, I hope modders patch in the game characters that actually look like the comic book counterparts. PS5 has zero exlusives now.
In a serious note I haven't played the game yet, I may get the PC version if it plays adequate on the Steam Deck. Why do they force the PSN account is beyond me. It is not that they offer PSN trophies or cross save.
@DennisReynolds Wouldn’t be the first time that stuff was cancelled after being leaked!
@TrickyDicky99 I get that but you cannot even buy the game in countries where PSN is not available. They are not the most major regions but still... Locking people out of a Spiderman game is not great
@Deoxyr1bose As someone that decided to go PC as my main gaming platform a year or so ago, after having it always be my second option for 16 years, do it.
You can get games on sale much cheaper through a lot of other sites like Humble and Fanatical, who also offer bundles. No extra sub charge for online, no waiting on some indie games to have a console release. Mods that both allow a game to run better and add fun/qol options to a game. Higher array of vr games, and mods to add vr into games that otherwise don't have it. Steam offers a lot of demos and even has Steam Next Fest with a whole slew of demos for upcoming indie games.
I could go on but in 2024, I just feel PC is a better bang for your buck. I use my PS5 for exclusives that I want to play Day One and play my PS4 library but that's essentially it.
@TrickyDicky99 No, I don't think this works. You cannot even buy the game in the countries without PSN, Steam does not offer the game for purchase. Maybe you could fool Steam somehow to think you are in UK for example. This violates the terms and conditions of both Steam and PSN.
Faster and Faster ports this game will be a year and some months lol
Sony even do not add Denuvo to their PC releases, which means day one piracy.
Fact 1: Most of those piracy have millions of downloads.
Fact 2: God of War Ragnarok has not yet in PS plus, while millions of PC users took it for free.
@Deoxyr1bose Would you have preferred if they waited 2 more days before they announced it? It'll have been 15 months by the time it releases on PC anyway and honestly I'm surprised this one didn't come sooner because of that leaked build from the insomniac hack.
@Deadlyblack
Tried to get back into PC gaming 2 years ago but bad PC ports and shader stutter ruined it for me.
PlayStation is now only half a step ahead of Xbox from being another completely redundant platform. Nintendo is well positioned to completely dominate the market with their next console, and all they had to do was maintain the status quo.
Heck yeah, that's way sooner than I expected. I absolutely love the first game and miles Morales, so can't wait to finally give this one a try. Hopefully it's not too much for my system to handle lol.
@truerbluer Nintendo had to make a hybrid to be successful,the last true console they had was arguably the biggest failure in like 30 years
@truerbluer Are they really? Because I'd wager there's tens of millions of people that aren't about to abandon their PlayStation libraries and happy to start ones on Steam/Epic/Whatever from scratch because they might get the console exclusives a year or two later.
I’m waiting for Sony also to only charge like $50 for the pc port. Future releases may just wait for deeper sales.
Also is Nixes, Insomniac and Asobi the only studios working?
@MrPeanutbutterz You're probably right but I'm only speaking for myself when I say I did exactly that. I re-bought everything I wanted on Steam sales and cdkeys and sold off the bulk of my PS4 collection and have no desire to buy another PlayStation unless they give me a real incentive, like actual exclusives.
@Shad361 The Wii U wasn't unsuccessful because it was a home console. It was unsuccessful because it was a console with a poor gimmick, terrible and confusing marketing, little third party support, rehased games from the Wii era, and after a point, not caring about the console.
Nintendo doesn't need a hybrid console to be successful. They need effective marketing, great experiences, gimmicks that are good, and good third party support. The Switch has all of that, and that's why it's successful.
The Switch probably would've still been successful if it was just a home console or a handheld, but Nintendo decided to make a hybrid in order to make development for games and software focused on one console instead of being split between handheld and home consoles. Nintendo is a very smart company when they're not blinded by previous successes, and while I do think the Switch was the best direction they could have gone, they would still have a presence in the market if they planned things out smartly with a separate handheld and/or a separate home console.
Wait, s--t, this is Push Square. Uh...cool, Spider-Man 2 for more audiences! Can't wait for the sexualized costume mods on PC!
ok i think i met my playstation quota for today.
I can't wait to see the news about PC babies cry about PSN requirement and review bomb the game 🤣
@HotGoomba Every Nintendo console from the NES to SNES to N64 to GC all sold less than the last until the Wii..which died early because most people bought games on PS3 and 360 and the hardcore audience was done with motion controls by 2010. The Wii's legacy as a whole is questionable honestly.
They would have sold enough consoles to justify it, but not 147 million worth or whatever the switch sold. They merged the console and handheld audience together and it was a "new" thing. I personally think switch 2 will decline like the nes to snes in sales.
@LiamCroft I'm impressed you were able to write an article about a PlayStation game coming to PC while holding back on the toxicity!
It’s very sad watching our beloved PlayStation slowly dying, long time fans migrating to PC. We were a family, people!
God, this was too fast, it’s a pill hard to swallow.
@truerbluer I would hazard a guess you are very much the exception, rather than the rule in that regard.
But good for you that you had the commitment to carry through with planting your feet firmly in the platform you prefer going forward. I cannot realistically see myself abandoning my 700 game strong PlayStation library, but that's not to say some of Sony's recent shenanigans don't make me a touch nervous.
Just...tell me where to put my money.
@MrPeanutbutterz I've seen quite a few comments on the official PS blog post and Reddit proclaiming either that PS5 will be their last console or they're moving to PC asap because they're feeling huge buyer's remorse with their PS5 purchase and no longer see the value in owning one; very few exclusives, higher cost for the same games cheaper/DRM free on PC, online fees with cross-play enabled etc.
I do believe a considerable amount of hardcore and enthusiast gamers will be migrating to PC by the end of the generation, if they haven't already.
@Medic_alert Hi - one of those people who pulled the trigger on a PC because I don't like where the premium console market is heading here. I am coming off of a 12 year hiatus from PC in favor of consoles.
Yes, after getting the prebuild with a monitor, I paid about $2K after taxes. It was the best money I have ever spent.
Yes, I could have saved money building my own...I tried but had problems with the case's circuit board that powered the case fans and simply preferred to use a local Best Buy instead as it would be less of a headache if there was a problem.
Installing a modern game and running it has never been easier. Heck, I'd argue it takes less wait time downloading a PC game than inserting a disc into the PS5 and waiting for it to install. Not exactly sure where this "PC is so much more time consuming" argument comes from. Perhaps 25 years ago, I would argue, yes.
Today?
Most games auto detect hardware settings or are at least console quality (if not more) by default. Plus, if you want a little more help, the Nvidia App lets you Optimize Game settings for your hardware (assuming you go with an Nvidia GPU). It's literally a click of a button.
Sure, if you want to sit there and inch out every fps you possibly can, I could see where one would be testing out settings.
With DLSS and Frame Gen, it's pretty rare to be below 75fps for most games (I have a 4070 Super, 32GB RAM, and an AMD 7800X3D) at Max Settings and using real-time RT. Input latency thanks to Nvidia Reflex (using a Gamepad) isn't a problem either.
If you don't care about real-time RT, then I'd say a mid-range PC will get you incredible far and could pretty much run whatever at Max Rasterized Settings without even needing DLSS and still be well above 60fps...probably more in the 100fps+ range for most games.
Now, if you want to get into more retro games...sometimes those can be an issue. GOG and Steam do a pretty good job ensuring most older games run on modern systems, but sometimes you will need to turn to the community for help. Many times, though, the solution can be found in the related games message boards with instructions.
I am pretty confident, though, that if you only want to game as far back as PS4-era, an upper mid-range PC will require very little time to get games running - and will probably carry you into next generation as well.
These announcements are getting faster and faster. Fully expecting Astro Bot's PC port to be announced before 2026 at this point, lol.
Along with FFVII Rebirth and Stellar Blade.
@HotGoomba Nintendo's home consoles have been selling worse and worse every generation, apart from the Wii, which was a 'lightning in a bottle' moment for the company. If the Switch had been a home console, it wouldn't have even had a hook for the smart marketing to work with. The decision would have really damaged Nintendo and perhaps made them into a handheld-only manufacturer.
@Deoxyr1bose Worth it. PC is so much more worth investing in as a long-term ecosystem. Biggest library, best prices on new games, multiple storefronts, multiple supported controllers, and most games are fully playable on a PC handheld as well for that Vita/PS4 like experience when it comes to Steam games with cloud save support.
Sony’s hand was forced as the PC folk are already playing Spider-man 2 because of the hack. The full game was leaked and some talented people did the port before Nixxes got their hands on it. It’s been available online for a long while now.
@Shad361 “I personally think switch 2 will decline like the nes to snes in sales.”
Nah… They have Pokémon
Now, I’m with @TheTony316. I tried the PC gaming experience 2 years ago and I disagree that consoles will die and most people will migrate to PC. Here’s my experience: bought a Ryzen 7/RTX 3070/32 GB RAM for about $1600. I thought I had spent a fortune and games would look and run great on it. I already had a monitor and a keyboard, otherwise it would be $2000+. Apparently, it still wasn’t enough as while the specs looked good on paper the prebuilt I got had crappy cooling and horrible RGB lighting. Playing games on full load it sounded like the PS4 Pro playing God of War/TLoU2 and generated enough heat to keep the entire flat warm in winter.
Windows is still not a system geared towards gaming. System updates still take ages sometimes and can break more than they fix. HDR is still iffy on PC- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Shader csching in Unreal Engine games is a mess on PC. Lots of games have stuttering issues that no amount of patches seems to fix. Case in point- WRC 23. I love rally games and this game is almost unplayable on PC despite patches, while it runs buttery smooth on PS5.
The numer of storefronts/launchers you need to use is mindboggling. On PS5 every game is in the same place. PC has the biggesr game library- sure, but most people will never play retro games (I tried, nostalgia gets a brutal reality check fast) and few gamers actually care about indies as only a handful of them are worthwhile.
To sum it all up- PC gaming does have a lot of advantages (freedom, cheaper games, more flexibility, mods, VR) but to an average gamer who just wants to game it’s just too much of a hassle and the money you need to spend to get a better experience than on a console graphics and performance-wise is really questionable in today’s economy. Unless tou have lots of disposable income.
@Deoxyr1bose 1000% agree with you. The PS5 is my last Sony console. At this point, if you have a PC of any kind and Nintendo's next console, you'll be able to play pretty much every game under the sun.
@nessisonett All 18 inches, right?
@PuppetMaster This is a real problem. If there is no PSN in the country you live Steam does not have the game available for purchase.
@AverageGamer didn't they have Pokemon when they released WiiU?
@belmont Used VPN then change the country on your Steam account?
@PuppetMaster This is against the Steam terms and if you get caught you will have your account terminated. Imagine one being in the EU and change the region to Argentina to buy games very cheap. Moreover, you need a debit or credit card from the same country as your region to buy games on Steam.
There are ways around all those but it is simply too much.
@belmont I doubt uncle Gabe gonna check if a Steam user used VPN to mask their country.
It's the same with PSN. I live in SEA and i made a US account in 2007 and back then my country not yet have PSN. But so far my US account is still working just fine including buying games from US store. Heck, i created Japan and EU account not long after that and Sony doesn't give a single ratass about it.
Also, i'm pretty sure i created PSN and Steam account without input my debit / credit card numbers.
Enjoy fellow PC gamers. It’s a good game, though not enough of a change from the first imo, and the story didn’t hit as hard, which elevated the first. Still loved it.
Hopefully Nixxes nails the port.
@PuppetMaster It is doesn't work the same way, Steam vs PSN. If I use VPN I to change the region say from UK to France. You still manually have to change in Steam settings UK to France. It doesn't care if you use VPN. Also, to change France to UK there is a cool time period for a couple of weeks. In addition to that if want to buy games from the France store and I only have a UK credit card I can't, I need a French one or a way to buy France Steam prepaid cards. And still if you have a lot of games you wouldn't risk having the account suspended.
@truerbluer if nintendo is the only “console” left then a lot of people are definitely just gonna go to PC 🤣 i hope that never happens
@TheTony316 lol, reassurance at its finest. PC is great & couldn’t be easier and simpler to get into .
@Medic_alert must’ve had a bad & outdated rig equivalent to a PS4.
@Medic_alert yeah , you’re right . my bad for the “pc master race” smugness. i’m still in the honeymoon phase with it , lol 🙃
@nomither6
I know it's easy to get into. I used to play in the late 90's and 00's when PC gaming was an actual pain in the ass.
My main issue these days is shader stutter.
What's the point of spending 500-600€ on a GPU only to get shader issues which aren't even fixable by the end user?
Bad PC ports have always been a thing but shader stutter is a recent issue.
So you're still in the "honeymoon phase"? Don't worry then, you'll find out about PC specific issues soon, lol.
@TheTony316 i thought the shade stutter was an unreal engine 5 issue , but yeah I’ll find out one day . just not today heh
I remember people saying that there will be at least 2 year wait before exclusives hit other platforms. Now it's roughly one year. So that makes Astro Bot port for PC in 2025 very realistic. Getting PC, paying less for games & no paid online play is just a better long term solution. I wish it wasn't just Windows when it comes to PC, but Apple doesn't care about gaming that much so after all Microsoft is the true industry leader as they have both Windows and Xbox.
@nomither6
It's Unreal Engine 4 and 5.
Other engines can have it too but it's primarily on Unreal Engine.
Problem is, a ton of games run on that engine, lol.
@TheTony316 @nomither6
This. Also, Unreal Engine 5 is the way to go for the forseeable future sadly. Even CDPR is adopting it in favour of their in-house engine for CP2077 (which looks and works great). My only hope is that devs learn to utilise it properly on PC so the issue of shader stutter goes away. There’s a lot to like about PC gaming and I may yet go back, but for now I’m sticking with PS5 and see how things are shaping up when PS6 launches.
@Nowings
Are you saying that Playstation games are free on the PC?
This along with Ragnarok will not be going into my Steam library under PlayStation games.
@truerbluer I've always treated forums (Reddit in particular) as atypical echo chambers that don't reflect the majority of players. They talk about cheaper costs, then ignore the fact that PC components cost way more, they "age out" quicker than consoles, there's a certain level (well, more than a console at least) of tech know-how required to keep a PC chugging along optimally, PC ports are frequently unoptimised messes, cheating is rife in certain genres, etc. Basically the grass isn't always greener.
I personally love my PS5. It's quiet, it plays PS4 games beautifully. I don't think the library is lacking too much (some arcade racers - and going off your avatar I'm sure you'll agree some sort of new WipEout content is sorely needed). I have fast and easy access to more games than I can count, and I could see the clear generational leap over the PS4 on day one with Demon's Souls Remake.
Am I hardcore? A 700 game library of all sorts of genres, both popular and obscure games says yeah I probably am. Again, zero interest in migrating that to PC. But the hardcore are a tiny minority. Most consoles go to people who buy FIFA and CoD, or maybe a handful of bigger franchises, not dorks like us.
@gollumb82
It sucks because this wasn't an issue with Unreal Engine 3 and prior Direct X versions.
In the past, you could power through by buying more powerful hardware, no matter how bad the PC port was.
Not possible with shader stutter. Not even a 4090 is spared from this.
@TheTony316
Agreed. Arkham Asylum and Arkham City work flawlessly on UE3. The mess starts with UE4 games. I hope it gets sorted as devs become more familiarized with UE5.
@Deoxyr1bose yes but you have to pay at least $2k to have a good gaming laptop that works for a few years. I was a pc gamer for years then frustrated for many issues like setting up, etc. The only game I found better on pc was skyrim, not because of the game itself but because of mods.
@gollumb82 i believe arkham knight is unreal engine 3 too
@truerbluer a ridiculous statement. The Sony PlayStation brand is stronger than ever - particularly in Europe. The pc and console markets aren’t the same and the vast majority of PlayStation’s profits are generated by casual gamers.
Yes, pc might be a threat to the enthusiast market, but for Sony that’s a very small proportion of their player base. Sony are also attempting to cater to this demographic with the release of the ps5 pro. Microsoft are struggling, not because of pc, but because of PlayStation - many players switched to PlayStation during the Xbox one generation and this trend has continued with the launch of ps5. There’s only 2 players left in the high end console space and I can’t see Microsoft returning in any way to threaten Sony’s lead. The main concern for consumers is that PlayStation are moving towards a position of complete market dominance.
Nintendo do their own thing and aren’t really in competition with anyone right now. Sony’s biggest worry for the future isn’t Microsoft or Nintendo, it’s the popularity of mobile gaming and the advent of improved cloud streaming technologies. This is true for all the major players in the console industry and to a lesser extent the pc market.
So what's left of 1st party exclusives?
TLoU 2
Astrobot?
3rd party has a few
FF7 rebirth
Stellar Blade
Demons Souls
Bloodborne
That's almost scary how little is left. TLoU2 will be Timed to land with the new season of the show. AstroBot is a ways off probly.
@Neither_scene If PS5 Pro is Sony's attempt to retain the enthusiast gamer, they're doing a poor job with it. I mean what kind of message are they sending when they showcase games like Spider-Man 2 with the implication that PS5 Pro is the best place to play... for about 2 months until the PC version releases and wipes the floor with the PS5 Pro with options of infinite resolution scaling, unlocked frame rates, ultra-wide support, freedom to use any controller and the far superior and mature DLSS technology that will never be available on PS5 Pro.
I agree that casuals make up the majority of the console audience but the casuals always follow the enthusiast gamers. If it wasn't true how can you explain the massive sales difference between PlayStation and Xbox when they both have the exact same libraries that appeal to casuals (Fortnite, FC, Madden, NBA 2K, CoD, GTA etc. with cross-play multiplayer too). The only reason PlayStation currently dominates is because Nintendo is yet to release their 9th gen console and Xbox has been self-imploding due to the consequences of their horrendous decisions.
The rate at which Sony's porting over their games to PC is so extremely fast that I could see them running out of legacy games they want to port over around 2026/2027. I guess 2026 is when "day 1 on PC" grows to even include their big 1st party single player games.
@truerbluer not really, the early coverage of ps5 pro by tech experts has been unanimously positive especially with those who have gone hands on with the system. PS5 pro will offer the best console experience across the board for multi platform and first party games for the remainder of this generation at a premium £700. We don’t know the system requirements for the pc version of spider man 2 yet - but I doubt that a £700 system will wipe the floor with the ps5 pro version. A 4090 would, but I would argue that if you can afford or own that system you were never in the market for a PlayStation, particularly if you play at high frame rates and ultrawide.
The massive difference between PlayStation and Xbox largely comes down to the fact that ps4 launched at a more competitive price point and was a more powerful system that didn’t market itself as an entertainment box. PlayStation has far better marketing than Xbox and also has people tied into their ecosystem from the ps4 generation. They had the call of duty marketing rights for 8 years and have been one of the main sponsors for the uefa champions league football tournament since 1997. I see PlayStation marketing all the time in the uk - I can’t remember the last time I saw an Xbox ad, probably for halo or gears of war back in the 360 era days.
@AverageGamer So did the 3DS which sold less than the original.
@LowDefAl You could say there were reasons,but they were still on a downwards trajectory for multiple generations in a row. Nintendo isn’t as invincible as many think.
Oh no another ps5 game being ported to the PC. Whatever will I do? How will I manage? Who cares? Why is it so bad that pc gamers get to play a game you've already been playing? Do pc gamers complain when the games they have been playing get ported to the consoles? I understand its not been out for a year yet but really get a grip people as there are much bigger issues to be worried about. I'm personally having night terrors that season 3 of gangs of london may be the last entry..
Another first party game hits PC before PS Plus Extra…
@Xbox_Dashboard I believe Stellar Blade is already announced to be “coming to PC”, but doesn’t have a definitive release window.
FF7 Rebirth is merely a matter of time.
Astro Bot is a consideration - heck there was an article about it around the games release that Sony would consider a PC port.
You’re probably right that TLOU 2 will release along side Season 2 of the show.
Demon’s Souls and Rise of the Ronin seems to be the only PS5 games that will stick around to the platform.
@truerbluer
The reason why casuals choose Playstation over Xbox is because Microsoft does a horrible job in marketing it's console. I'm from Europe and the last time i've seen an Xbox commercial was in 2010.
Meanwhile, Playstation ads are on every Champions League game.
Xbox is non existent here and has been for over a decade.
@Northern_munkey i can tell you who cares. The people that are coming to grips with the fact that the MS strategy of games in more places is slowly becoming more and more of a thing with PS. In due time they fear they won’t have certain talking points left to bash the competitions fan base and act as if a plastic box that plays games makes them superior in some sort. Sorry if it ain’t the answer you are looking for but it’s the truth. I have been on record on here and will continue to stick to what i said, by the PS6 to the middle of the PS6 gen we will see PS games on PC sooner and sooner cause they are seeing that waiting to long takes a lot of money of the table. Plus with Sony’s interest in live service games they will need to leverage the PC player base. Look at HD2 on PS5 it’s not even on the top charts anymore, it’s mainly surviving off PC. PS gamers aren’t nearly as interested in live service games as Sony would like so PC will get a lot of support as Sony is in search of it’s cash cow title. I pre order a PS5 Pro and don’t even play Spider-Man games but I had to see the comments on this one and they are going as i expected in most cases.
@HonestHick so what? Does it mean I won't be able to play sonys big games if they are on PC day 1 or a bit later down the road? It has zero impact on me or the ps players that are not interested in gaming on a PC. I see your point and I'm not disrespecting you but it's irrelevant to be honest.
@EfYI Yes and No. Sony games sold millions of copies on PC. On the other hand, Sony games also have millions of downloads on piracy website.
@Northern_munkey thats my point. To me and you that want to play the game on PS consoles don’t care cause it don’t effect our experience with the game. Me and you and countless others were never going to play it on PC anyways. So we are ok with it. The same as a Xbox owner i am ok with their games going to PC. The more the merrier. However my comment was towards the other PS fans. The ones that brag about things that don’t matter, all to make some fake war news between consoles, or consoles vs PC’s. They are losing their talking points. This is who cares. Even tho they shouldn’t cause we all get to play the games. Sadly thats just not good enough for them. You are 1000% right the point i pointed out should be irrelevant but we have given talking heads so much room online that their views become so big that it takes someone like me and others to point out how foolish it all gotten.
@naruball They had Pokémon… But Pokémon at the time was only on handhelds. They wasn’t really making any games for consoles. After the game cube, they basically gave up into trying to bring the franchise to home console in a big way.
@HonestHick I see. Sorry I forget that you are American and English is not your first language. I guess things got lost in translation 🤣.
@Northern_munkey also i want to add you have never disrespected me. You are a true gamer and friend of mine on here. Someone’s opinion of the industry and myself that i respect. If i was out of line and you would call me out on it i would take it and learn from it. But i think you understand whom i am calling into question on here. The ones that don’t want players to have choice and care more about Sony then the gamers. When us gamers don’t stand up for each other and stick up for the companies we will all live in a world of anti consumer practices . I do my best to teach others not to give the power to the companies and to fight for us gamers. MS, Sony and Nintendo all have some bad practices for us gamers, let’s not go write articles in favor of those practices and in this post i want the message to be great games should be on more platforms, whenever said game maker see’s fit to port it, even if it is at launch. More people playing is far better for the industry than having exclusive content locked to an audience that is no longer investing money or playtime into it.
@Northern_munkey see. Sorry I forget that you are American and English is not your first language. I guess things got lost in translation 🤣
HAHAHA good one buddy!! 😂
@Shad361 The issue with 3DS was that they were trying to sell a $300 handheld that was worse than the vita. By the time sales picked up after the price cut… We were already talking about the Switch. Which didn’t help since Nintendo basically pulled content from 3DS to sell the Switch.
@HonestHick 😝
@AverageGamer good point. It's a handheld game at heart.
@GamingFan4Lyf
I was reading one of your posts on this thread, and thought I would ask a question as someone who has bought the pro, but is getting completely hacked off with the situation of framerates in console games and Sonys inability in getting 3rd party devs to stick to a decent 60fps (which given their market dominance in the console space should really be easy for them imo).
Im not asking for now, but for 4yrs time when PS6 is launching and i am considering this vs switching to PC.
You mentioned buying a monitor for your new PC when switching from console - how easy and successful is it to plug a decent PC (as you have described upper mid range, with Nvidia GPU) into a decent TV (4k, 120hz, VRR, HDMI 2.1) via an HDMI 2.1 cable.
Is it just plug in and use these days? (I would be hesitant to need any 'additional' mods / software not supplied by Nvidia).
Many thanks.
@Rich33 Just plug it in via HDMI. Nvidia does pass audio - called Nvidia HD Audio.
It supports all the major codecs: Dolby TrueHD, Atmos, DTS-HD MA, DTS:X, etc.
Windows should detect 120Hz, VRR, and HDR (including Dolby Vision if supported).
You MAY need to go to the Windows Display settings to verify HDR and VRR are enabled, but that’s about the only setup you would need to do.
You would also need to install the Dolby App to get Atmos (and potentially Dolby Vision); but even the Xbox Series X requires the Dolby App to enable Atmos.
Not really interested in spidey2 on any platform, but since 1 has a VR mod, I'd buy it on a good sale later if Luke has a mod for it, and he probably will, he's been doing all the Sony games except gow (must be an engine thing.)
@GamingFan4Lyf has it right, @Rich33, basically you just plug it into the TV, just like a console. You have a few settings options to check/enable, but, that's not even different from console.
@belmont @TrickyDicky99 also total control of access. Sony just lost a big lawsuit in EU over trying to stop sale of "parasite mods" that attach to the process to let you skip content etc. they can't block the sale of the mods . But if they're on PSN accounts they can still ban accounts for using it ....
@GamingFan4Lyf @NEStalgia
Ah, thank you.
When I read in your post (GamingFan) about you moving to PC and buying a monitor I thought that my assumption you could simply plug into a TV might be wrong (I had never really asked the question, just assumed) - unfortunately it would really scupper any plans if I needed a monitor.
Thank you again.
@Rich33 The TV is in a shared space. I wanted my computer in my own space - plus a bulky desktop box with RGB would ruin the aesthetic in the living room (for those in the house who care about that sort of thing).
I love it.
The power over consoles (for now) is certainly welcome, but my main goal was just to get away from consoles all together. So even if this desktop is equivalent to next-gen consoles, it just means I will get plenty of years out it.
I don't care about 4K/Ultra/240fps/etc. 1440p/60+ is perfectly fine.
I feel like DLSS/Frame Gen/Reflex combo will really extend the life of PCs.
My monitor is a 27" LG Nano 165Hz. It has HDR up to 400nits (okay, not the brightest, but there is more to HDR than brightness). It uses Nvidia G-Sync (and AMD FreeSync). It was also like $200 off the price when I got it - which was the main reason I got it because it took it to like $150.
While I will say most modern games don't come close to that 165fps, I also don't strive to get my framerate high either. PS4 era and below can get that high and it's very nice. While I can't see the difference above 60fps, I can certainly feel it in the games being like...insanely responsive.
God of War (2018) runs at like 140fps at 1440p and Max Settings (with DLSS Enabled). I play with a Gamepad wired via USB. I swear there is like 0 input latency. It's nuts!
I think Days Gone gets in the 160s for framerate.
Alien Isolation runs at like 500+ fps.
I really only turn on FPS Monitors to ensure the game is running above 60fps. At that point, I don't care and I turn them off.
I like that Nvidia has a "Fast" Vsync option you can enable at the Global level. It lets the game run as fast as it can run, but there is no Screen Tearing, either. Plus you get all the response benefits of super high framerate.
@GamingFan4Lyf
For me, its the opposite - i (we) do our gaming in the living room, via the main TV, and could hide a pretty modest Tower with a tiny bit of effort. But, I dont have room elsewhere to have it set up with a monitor, hence why I suddenly thought after reading your original post something along the lines of 'have they had to go to using a monitor when they moved to PC".
I decided to give Sony 1 more go with Pro (which unlike some people, I have thought looks pretty good really - mainly as I have been watching all the DF videos & via my TV not just a phone).
I dont want to move away from console, for a number of reasons, but they are starting to force my hand with all these sub 60 framerate issues in the last year or so (which give me headaches and make me feel sick). The other side of that being games that run at 60fps but look horrible or like vaseline - I was quite happy in the 1st few years of PS5!
But Sony is at least making it easier by putting all their AAA exclusives on PC!
I also know PC games sometimes launch with stutter issues, but hopefully by 4 years time this might be a bit better.
So, I am 'kicking the can down the road' 4 years until PS6, and the ball is in their court to convince me that 60fps (or more), with decent enough visuals is now their priority (and that they can pull 3rd party in line somehow) as per Mark Cernys presentation (which really was the only useful part of this overly short video as he didnt get time to go into any real detail).
If not, I plan to be ready to move to PC (but in order to make it feel like it was worth it I will definitely be aiming for 90fps+ !)
@Rich33 Good luck and I do hope the PS5 Pro is everything you hope it will be (truly, no sarcasm)!
@GamingFan4Lyf
Thank you again. Im under no illusion Pro is going to be a miracle machine, but I think a decent image at 60fps as you mentioned should not require a miracle! (But im not sure how often it will happen on base PS5 now).
In the meantime, im reading up / asking questions for PC atm - as I want a genuine alternative / choice when ps6 rolls around.... not just an idle baseless threat if Sony fails to listen to their 75% performance mode research!
@truerbluer yeah it will as long as it’s about 4k worth of PC. Anything less will be the equivalent of a PRO. Remind me how much a GPU is again?
@Rich33 PSSR is sounding like it will be a fantastic upgrade over FSR and other software-based upscaling methods. So perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised - judging from the word of mouth, it really is helping those games with poor image quality in those 60fps modes.
Feel free to ask me any questions, I'd be happy to answer (you can find my various account IDs in my profile) - especially since I am a freshly renewed back into the PC arena.
I can provide the good, the bad, and anything in between regarding my transition from console-only since 2012 back to being a PC-person.
I can't wait for the pc launches to be day 1. They are getting there.
